TOOL INVENTORYThe code tells you what the tool is, where it was, and who last had it. Scanning it again on arrival closes the trip. Every scan is signed with your name — there is no way to move a tool anonymously.
Picked up but not yet scanned in anywhere. Anything past a day is flagged — a tool that has been in transit for three days is not in transit.
Pick the job, start the check, then walk it and scan the tags. You are not being asked to re-count anything that is already on record — a scan is the confirmation. Works on a phone; the camera opens in place.
Each one ticks off as you scan it. Anything left unscanned stays unconfirmed — it is never written off by a missed scan.
Only the items that cannot sensibly carry a tag. Leave a box empty and the number on record stands.
Tagged units are counted individually; everything else is a quantity someone confirmed. Amber items are the ones worth chasing. Scroll sideways for more jobs.
A job is confirmed when its foreman runs the sweep on the Tools tab of his tracker. Nothing here asks anyone to re-type a count.
Short counts land here rather than being written off as lost. Something counted below what we believed is not proof of theft — it means somebody has to look. Once found, move it back from UNACCOUNTED under Move a tool.
Tagged tools nobody has scanned recently. This is the early warning: a tool goes quiet here weeks before anyone notices it is gone.
Type or scan the tag. The tool moves from wherever it is now.
For anything counted by quantity — cords, shovels, jack stands.
Minting a tag takes one unit out of the untagged pile at that location and starts tracking it on its own. The total on hand does not change.
Pick the tags to print, then use your browser's print dialog on Avery 5160 sheets (3 across, 10 down). Set scale to 100% and margins to none, or the grid will drift. A P-Touch can print the tag number as text, but it cannot print the code.
For tools that are new to Ops: bought, rented to own, or found and never counted. Moving a tool that is already on record is Move a tool, not this.
Add it here first, then add it to inventory above.
The ledger is the record. Locations are derived from it, so nothing here can be edited away — a correction is another line.
